In order for the BIOS to enable SGX functionality, you would have to connect your display to one of your motherboard display outputs (in my case with ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E by HDMI). In order to allow this, I believe Intel baked the SGX tech into the Integrated GPU on their CPU, with the SGX 4K/UHD player (in my case Cyberlink PowerDVD) only allowing 4K/UHD playback when the motherboard enables SGX - usually automatically within the BIOS. While not the main reason, I ended up purchasing my 8700K over the 2700x due to not being able to invest into upgrading my blu-ray library to 4K/UHD as well as continuing to enjoy 4K/UHD blu-rays I was intending to buy and keep.įrom what I understood when looking into this, the SGX technology on Intel CPUs is Intel's way of allowing hardware level encryption that cannot be bypassed by software when displaying the 4K/UHD content to an HDCP compliant display. Sorry for the lengthy explanation below, might of help to others too :-) The short answer to your question, I believe Zen 2 mainstream no, Zen 2 APUs possibly.
